Whether you are a freelancer sending an invoice, an online seller taking payments, or a creator receiving tips and commissions, PayPal’s fee structure quietly eats into every payment. For US merchants the standard PayPal Checkout rate is 3.49% plus a $0.49 fixed fee, card payments are 2.99% plus fixed, QR payments are 2.29% plus $0.09, and international payments add a further 1.50%. On a $100 invoice that can mean nearly $4 leaving your pocket before you see a cent.
Our calculator handles both directions. Enter the amount you plan to charge and it instantly shows the fee and your net take-home. Or switch to reverse mode and enter the amount you want to actually receive — it tells you exactly what to put on the invoice so the fee doesn’t come out of your profit. This is the calculation every seller does by hand or with a spreadsheet; now it’s one click.
Eleven currencies are supported with their correct fixed fees (USD, EUR, GBP, AUD, CAD, SGD, MYR, THB, PHP, JPY, NZD), and every transaction type has an up-to-date preset: PayPal Checkout, standard cards, Goods & Services, QR code, Pay Later, donations, and charity rates. All calculations run locally — no data is sent to any server.

Use the Free Calculator NowHow PayPal Fees Work in 2026
PayPal charges merchants a percentage of each transaction plus a fixed fee, and the rate depends on how the payment is received. Online Checkout payments cost 3.49% + $0.49 in the US, while in-person QR code payments cost less at 2.29% + $0.09. Standard credit and debit card payments sit at 2.99% + $0.49, and Goods & Services transfers are a flat 2.99% with no fixed fee. PayPal Pay Later is the most expensive at 4.99% + $0.49.
International payments are where sellers lose the most. Any cross-border commercial transaction adds 1.50% on top of the standard rate, and if a currency conversion is involved PayPal applies a spread of roughly 3–4% on the exchange rate. If you invoice clients overseas, always run the international toggle so your quote covers the real cost.
The fixed fee also varies by currency — $0.49 for USD, €0.39 for EUR, £0.39 for GBP, A$0.59 for AUD, RM2.00 for MYR, ฿15 for THB, and so on. That is why the calculator adjusts the fixed fee automatically when you switch currencies. The result is the true cost of accepting payment, so you can price your work with confidence instead of guessing.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does PayPal charge per transaction in 2026?
For US merchants, PayPal Checkout charges 3.49% plus a fixed fee (usually $0.49 USD). Standard card payments are 2.99% + fixed, QR code payments are 2.29% + $0.09, and Goods & Services transfers are 2.99% with no fixed fee. International payments add 1.50%.
How do I add PayPal fees to an invoice?
Use reverse mode: enter the net amount you want to receive, and the calculator returns the gross amount to charge. For example, to receive $100 net with PayPal Checkout (3.49% + $0.49), invoice $104.12. Then create the invoice with the free Invoice Generator.
Is there a way to avoid PayPal fees?
Accepting goods-and-services payments without paying fees violates PayPal’s terms and can get accounts limited. Legitimate ways to pay less: use QR codes (2.29%) for in-person sales, negotiate international fees into your quote, or compare alternative payment processors for your market.
Does the calculator work for non-US sellers?
The calculator uses PayPal’s published US merchant schedule (July 2026) with currency-specific fixed fees. Fee percentages differ in some countries, so use Custom mode to enter your local rate, or verify with PayPal’s official fee page for your market.
Is my payment information safe with this tool?
