How the Pomodoro Technique works

The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. It uses a timer to break work into focused intervals, traditionally 25 minutes, separated by short breaks.

  1. Choose a task you want to work on.
  2. Start the timer and focus on that task for one full Pomodoro session.
  3. When the timer rings, mark one session completed and take a short break (5 minutes).
  4. After every 4 sessions, take a longer break (15–30 minutes).
  5. Repeat. Reset after a long break.

Tips for better sessions

Customizing your timer

You can change the focus and break durations at any time. The timer adjusts when you start the next session. Long break frequency controls how many focus sessions you complete before a longer rest.
